Default possible a/c compressor problem

Its a bit of an odd noise, I started noticing it after letting off the accelerator there was a strange whining noise. So flash forward about a week or so I'm sitting and I smell rubber burning roll down my window and hear like something is seized up. So I pull over and sure enough its making some funky ass sound as if the clutch is taking a shit on me. I looked to see if it was maybe the electric fan was dying out. Turned the car off the noise didn't come back. I let the car sit and idle today and the noise isn't there at first then starts to progressivly get louder. You give it a bit of gas and the noise will stop for a second, then start again. Its very strange then after a few minutes it gets louder and I begin to smell burnt rubber again. So my guess is the a/c compressor is dying out but It sounds like its coming from the front left side of the engine opposite of the compressor.Let me know

Does it correspond with the "AC" button being on? Does it stop when it is off? You can remove the drive belt very easily and see if any of the pulleys in the system are hard to turn. The compressor should free wheel with the engine off.
