After my first track session, I removed my Porterfield R-4S pads and remounted my stock pads. My question is about the inside passenger side front pad, which is shown below. Is this wear "normal," or should I be concerned? Can I remount this pad with confidence?

BTW, I'm new to posting pix so please feel free to offer tips for better size/clarity/etc.

Thanks!
Mike

Chris, I thought you said you've notice some crumbling of the R4S's after track weekends? I would have thought the pictures represented the type of breakdown you've described.

I can't view the pics, but I can tell you from past experience that the R4S often will not hold up to a full track day with an aggressive driver (on other cars). Even the guys at Porterfield will tell you as much.

When mine have gone to pot, they start turning white. You can actually see it start at the pad/rotor interface and after each session more and more of the thickness of the pad is white, till its cooked through. My guess is that the binder can't hold up and just gets cooked out. They're great street pads, hold up fine at the auto-x and are great for canyon blasting (while wearing great), but I won't use them for track events anymore. Unfortunately, the R4 will kill rotors quickly (although not as quickly as Hawk Blues!).

Thanks for all the info of your experiences, UL and Cdelena. Very valuable stuff. I suppose after enough rotor turnings, one of you will be ready to get one of those special rotors being discussed in different threads?
