Default Please HELP me. Oil leaking between tran. & motor

Ok, so today I was leaving a resturant, and noticed alittle oil on the ground. so I came home and Jacked it up. and heres what I found. at first I thought it was motor oil but, after inspecting it, It smelled like brake fluid/clutch fluid? so I ask now what. it is leaking out of the weap hole in the bottom of the tranny. and now I think this is what also was leading to my clutch slipping problems.

BTW if it is not related to the Hyd. throw out bearing, i could only assume a rear main seal leak, but I doubt it seeing how it does not smell like motor oil.

maybe its clutch fluid from the slave cylinder?

what kind of transmission problems are you having?

if it smells like break fruid it's probably your slave cylinder.

looks like there a significant amount. is the clutch fluid level going down? could it be transmission fluid?

thats the thing the fluid is not going down. I have no idea how bad the leak is, weather it is gushing out or a extremely slow leak I would assume it is slow, but while I was under the car it dripped twice, in a 5 min period, I have a feeling I am going to have to do a exploratory tear down to fig it out.

There shouldn't be any fluid coming from the tranny in that spot. When you break the motor apart from the tranny the area where the pressure plate clutch and flywheel are is right above there and it is a dry area, there is not fluid in there.
Either the fluid is coming down from the slave cylinder and dripping or its motor oil from the pan or above the pan.

The throwout is just a bearing, no oil or hydraulics there.
The slave is on the outside of the trans and I doubt it would leak to the inside.
If it did it would be easy to see if you remove the slave - and the clutch fluid reservoir would not be full.

IMO its either gear oil or engine oil.
Gear oil is possible but not likely as the fluid level in the trans is not even close to the inputshaft.
So its most likely engine oil.
If its the oil pan that is leaking at the back it will be easy to fix if nothing is cracked.
If its the rear main seal you need a new one = pull trans + remove PP & FW + replace seal.

i vote for engine oil.

if it is a small amount, perhaps you spilled some oil while topping off?
