You may want to change the differential fluid since you don't know it's condition, and it may be the cause of your whine.
Also check the level of the fluid in the transmission, it should be just ready to drip out of the fill hole when hole is open on level surface.

Thanks mate, what fluid are people using in the diff? I've read a few horror stories about Honda supplying the worng type.
