OK so not to put a damper on this because I think it is a great idea for FI, etc.... but if the MY04 is 40% stronger than the MY03, how much does it cost to buy an 04 diff and put it on an 00-03? If it's close to $500 you're not providing alot of value. However if you were to take an 04 diff and strengthen it then you may be able to get the 75%-80% stronger which would be valuable.

OEM = expensive.

I think it was mentioned that the 04's diff has a lot of the same work done to it as the comptechs upgrade. So you cant improve it to 75-80% like you're thinking. There's only so much you can improve with one design.

Plus $500 for a whole new diff housing is a pretty good price.

From what we can tell, the '04 diff looks identical to the early models.

Does it?
How can it be stronger then?

Hardtopguy is installing my new Richmond Gear 4.57 in a '04 diff in a few weeks, so we'll report how it goes.

I am definetly in. Mine is humming, I have 410hp at the wheels but I have to turn the boost down because it is too much tourque. The last quote I got to improve my rear end was too back-half the rear entire car, for a sum of $7,000.00. What?, are you kidding? $500.00! put me down for 2.

I wonder if any of the internals from the supposed stonger 04 diff would fit the 00-03 diff?!? sort of like getting an OEM comptech upgrade!!, I dont mean replace the full diff but just upgrade the weakest parts.

Rick let us know how hardtop guy gets on with the 4.57 install.

I spoke to Hardtopguy about this a few weeks ago.

The 04 diff carrier assembly (the interior part that actually holds the diff gears and such, is indeed a different part number than pre 04. It's about $350-$400 IIRC, problem is, nobody has yet investigated whether it is stronger than the pre 04 or just different.

Reverend just installed an 04 housing in his car. The jury is still out weather or not it is stronger than the 00-03. After seeing the pics on his website, any differences are difficult to see from the previous model.
