Actually a ford 9" can be used with IRS, but it's a lot of work.
We used it on our big block Jag in High School.
Probably not worth it though.
What about a full race trans/diff. There are a few out there, they would just have to be machined/modified to suit our needs.

What would it cost to build a new diff casing from scratch? As I understand, the failures are caused by inadequate bracing around the axles which makes the whole diff flex and put pressure on the bearing caps. True?

Hey guys I talked to Keith for over a 1/2 hour today. He is very serious, he wants to be the first to design parts for our high horse power needs. But he needs a rear end casing and parts. He also mentioned that transmission is weak. I told him I am shooting for 450hp and had no faith in either. He has been the one that knows the most about these parts that I have talk to. Lets see if some of us can get together and help each other. I am highly interested.......Alex...

I agree with Squeezer that the pinion gear is the problem and J's final takes care of this.

Is the pinion gear weak or could it be housing related...as in the case *moves* under big loads. If that is the case, then better gears won't solve the problem. Some rear ends have optional case covers that push onto the bearing caps so that they also help keep things stable. They are called rear end girdles. No they are not for junk-in-the-trunk issues! I'll post a PIC if I can track one down.

Found a PIC! Notice that the cover has "load bolts" built into it. They help stabilize the output bearing caps. Easy to install too.

But again there is Moore when going over 400hp at the wheels,,,Just imagine I recently had to redo my turbo because it spooled at 7,000 but it would have made 600hp at the wheels. First clutch drop.....BBOOOOMMMM, the new one is good for 500hp spooling at 3500rpm.....Alex
