So I found Pit Row DIY a few months ago and have been looking for an excuse to go try it out.
For starters, this place is like a Tech Shop for automotive enthusiasts, a gym for car nerds.
The prices are very reasonable. Currently it is $30/hr for lift time and their is a discount for forum members.
I had to prepare my CR and my friends AP2 for a post thanksgiving track weekend and didn't feel like squirming under 1.5 feet of jack stands on the ground.
I have accumulated a plethora of tools, tool boxes, air impact, electric impact, compressor and various specialty tools over the years from wrenching on my track bike, miata and s2000.
This place has it all for pretty much any standard job. If their is a an extreme niche tool for a specific purpose for a particular car, don't blame them for not having because they have to supply for the general masses.
Here's just a short list of what they have that I had used through the course of my 6 hrs of prep:
fluid collectors
1/2 socket sae & metric socket sets, shallow and deep variants, extensions and swivels, breaker bars & ratchets
3/8 socket sae & metric socket sets, shallow and deep variants, extensions and swivels, breaker bars & ratchets
1/4 socket sae & metric socket sets, shallow and deep variants, extensions and swivels, breaker bars & ratchets
1/2 and 3/8 torque wrenches
air tools
metric and sae wrenches, fixed and ratcheting
nitrile gloves
shop tools
grease
brake cleaner
race ramps for getting lowered cars up to lifts
work lights
magnetic trays
floor jacks
jack stands
tripod stands for supporting engines and trannys
balljoint & tierod pullers
The best part about the tools and tools boxes, every bay has their own basic (extensive) set which are laid out and labeled exactly the same in all the tool boxes so you can get to work efficiently and effectively!
Literally, you can show up with your go fast parts and glue them on your car without bringing any tools. The preparer that I am, I brought my honda grease, shin-etsu and my trusty electric impact that I never leave home without.
Dennis, the owner, is an extremely courteous, amicable and knowledgeable individual. He gives you a brief overview and let's you get on your way if you are competent but is their to lend you a hand with practical knowledge or theory on what's wrong if the need for help arises.
I'm seriously considering getting rid of all my significant heavy tools now that I found that place.
Just thought I'd let you bay area guys know where you can wrench, comfortably.

That's a great business idea. Can't imagine the liability insurance though.

Yea, I read that on their website.
I'll say it again, great business opportunity. Location, location, location.

I think the location is great! It's fairly safe and quite area and convenient to South Bay people from milpitas to Palo Alto. If you are from the city, then just pack some food and what not and make a day of it.
I've bounced off the owner the idea of opening later as many of us have day jobs and by the time we are off, got some food in us, it's probably 7 if not 8 which only gives an hour or so for us to wrench.
Another awesome thing is, I recently installed a spoon oil pan in my friends ap2 and having the flexibility of leaving the car overnight to cure ($15/night) on the lift left me confident that the installation was text book and convenient.
