Pink/Red starter kill key?
Recently I was at my friends house and looked on his desk, saw a red/pink honda key. I was just joking around with him, "what is this, JDM?, I want one." He said that no I did not want one, and when I asked him why, he said flip it over. Keep in mind this key is still in a plastic wrapping. On the other side, there is writing that says somethign to the effect of "If you use this key you will no longer be able to use the master key to start the car, ever again." I asked him about it further, he said it was in the glove compartment of his prelude when he bought it used. I don't understand the use of this key/ have never seen one before, but he said it does permanent damage to the starter system of the car. Crazy, any honda gurus or dealers know what's up with this???

I'm no Honda expert, but .................
1. There's such a thing as a "master" key?
2. It must be referring to the coded pellet in the key. Even if it was a "kill" code, it would only ruin the immobilizer system of the car, not the "starter" system, which I interpret as meaning the ignition, starter motor, etc.

Yes, the master key is the black one (typically) that has all the functions, with no restrictions. (as opposed to grey valet key where you can't unlock trunk or glovebox, etc.), you can ahve more than one master key. You are right about the immobilizer system, that's what I meant, but couldn't think what to call it - been a long day

It's a Red learning key for type 1 immobilizer systems, and you will erase all programmed keys f you try to start a car with it.
The learning key is only used when programming the keys, by a dealer.
The 97-01 prelude, 96RL, and NSX are the only cars that use type 1 immobi. The S2K uses a different type of Immobilizer system.
Loosing the Red key is also pretty expensive, as it has to be replaced with the Immobilizer unit.
