Default Piece of sh*t rattling catalytic converter

I have stock headers with an aftermarket exhaust, engine is pretty much stock with an intake. Car has about 28k miles on it. Now, everytime I start the car and as it begins to warm up, I get a lovely rattling sound directly underneath the car. I had the car up on jackstands to figure out where the sound was coming from and sourced it to the cat. Seems like the elements inside are broken up and you can see them rattle and shake inside the cover. The sound is very annoying. And the stock cat lists at your local honda dealer for $800.00, what a lovely piece of sh*t.

Are you sure its not the heat shield?? On just about every Honda I've had, the heat shield has rattled on me. I just rip it off and the annoyance is over with.

If thats the case, take it back to the dealer. Im not too sure about other states, but in NY cats are replaceable under warranty due to emissions.

I would take the cat to a honda dealer and make them replace it.

Get a straight pipe too for $100

Buy a test pipe and increase performance.

I agree with everyone. Get a test pipe. Its cheaper and you will gain more power. Also what exhuast do you have on your car? I think I was experiencing the same thing with my old exhuast.

The EPA mandates that all catalytic converters are waranteed for at least 80,000 miles, regardless of age. If the substrate is rattling around, it isn't doing its job as designed and the manufacturer has to replace it. If you have a stock manifold, then you shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced.

Actually the stock cat is part of emissions, which would mean it should fall under the 10 year emissions warranty. But of course any Honda dealer can easily say that is voided since you changed the exhaust and intake.

if you buy someones stock exhaust that would be a cheap alternative. There are ppl who will practically give away thier stock exhausts...
