For a given flow rate, increasing the surface area will result in a decreased flow velocity across the filter. So if the filter media are similar, there should be a smaller pressure drop across the media because the oil doesn't have to flow as quickly.

In addition, it seems that the F2x doesn't have a significantly higher oil flow rate.

This PureONE filter is much smaller, "(3" dia x 3.4" long)", than the Baldwin, 3 11/16" x 5 3/8", and it can flow quite a bit:
