Hmm this middle column of debris is tough... if someone could tell me what the piece dead center (above the flywheel) is we could get some more momentum here. I'm familiar with everything but that one piece.

By the way, I'm impressed at how few pieces the engine has. Many of the parts are intricate and doubtless a challenge to cast -- but there aren't that many parts.

dlq04, good call -- it does look like a timing chain cover, after all.

Above the CHAIN CASE, I believe, is the coolant pump.

...guess I'll use this lunch break to finish the center row:

Above the WATER PUMP/THERMOSTAT HOUSING assembly is:

above left - OIL PUMP & PICK UP
above right - OIL COOLER and the OIL FILTER is above that

Next on our way up we encounter the IGNITION COILS (of the PENCIL COIL design type, vs. coil-on-plug)

and finally, above the coils is the WINDAGE TRAY

That's what I thought it was too, but dlq04 thought it was a heat shield...can we reach a consensus?

The right column is pretty easy, save a few ones:

On top right is the THROTTLE BODY... there are a lot of parts on that -- anyone care to break it down?

Then below that is the HEAD (every man's favorite part )...

I'm not sure I know the purpose of those gaskets to the right of the head...

The below the HEAD is the VALVE COVER... and to the right is our favorite part... the VTEC SOLENOID...

C'mon everyone, this is fun.

It was a test - the official term is BAFFLE PLATE

Those may be what the valve stems sit inside of.......Though I don't know for sure. Well these next ones are going to get tough.

Next to name is the thing below the VTEC solenoid. Beuwler.......
