Default passenger airbag off light not working

Hello S2ki,

I just traded my 2000 S2000 for a 2008, and I love this car so much however there is a minor roblem with the "passenger airbag off" light. i know that this light should come on when no weight is on the front seat, however when i turn on the car, the airbag off light turns on then shuts itself off after 5 seconds. Could this be a faulty sensor or am I overlooking something?

any input is greatly appreciated

Sounds like it's working properly. Here's what the manual states...and I summarize:

"If the weight sensors under the seat detects that a small child or infant may be in the seat the airbag will automatically turn off. When the airbag is off ,an indicator in the center of dashboard will come on indicating that the passenger airbag is "OFF". If there is no passenger in the seat the airbag will be off. However the passenger airbag off indicator will not come on."

I think what you describe is what's normal on initial startup. Since your passenger seat weight sensor detects no weight at all,the airbag "OFF" indicator light is not lit. If it was to detect a light weight object or child under a predetermined weight, then the light should be lit notifying the operator that the airbag is off.
