I just installed my AEM CAI with bypass valve 2 days ago and the bypass valve just fits right in there. I haven't tried the CAI without the bypass valve for comparison, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I was running a Comptech drop in filter before and the difference is HUGE.

I don't think it's useless.
The old by-pass-valves were useless and didn't work, but the new ones prevent water being sucked into the intake.
For only 50 bucks = peace of mind
