Paper filter for PRM intake
I have searched the archives for information on a paper filter element to replace the K&N filter in the PRM. I found the question asked several times, but never answered.
Does anyone have a part number for a paper filter replacement? How do you remove the K&N from the PRM?
Thanks!

I assumed it came with a K&N since the filter cleaning instructions that came with the intake tell the user to "Purchase a K&N filter cleaner kit with the filter oil in aerosol (spray Can)" If it is not a K&N it must be similar to the oil impregnated cotton media that K&N uses, based on this recommendation.
As to the reason for changing to a paper filter.............more efficient filtering.
I'm willing to trade a little less air flow for less dirt in the engine. I like the intake, the look and the sound. I've also opened up the passenger side brake duct to vent air to the intake horn.

The paper filter will only lose power when it is dirty and needs replacing - and the airbox and filter in the S2000 can flow far more than the engine can use, so it is no big thing. The gauze filters may provide a few ponies, but the tradeoff in added dirt is not one I care to make either.
I have tested under lab controls many gauze filters and some of the highly touted foam ones, and while they flow well, they admit far more dirt, even allowing for the added flow. We even sectioned a piece of one and looked at it under a scanning electron microscope.
A K&N wth 20k miles on it filters better and does not substantially reduce flow, but first you have to get to the 20k miles!
I have also looked at the gauze of a "cleaned and re-oiled" filter, and it never looks as good as it did originally. The tiny hairs tend to glom together, making the filtering even worse.
I used to sell them and recommend them, but K&N are not for me anymore - if you must go gauze, I would recommend AFE or Accel. Both are made better than K&N's.
AFE has also sorts of sizes, so you may find what you want.

BTW, we used "test dirt" - their actually is such a thing.
