Default Paper Clip to obd = Code 71, 72, 74

Hi, I did a lot of searching regarding this issue, but Im not sure which way to go about resolving this issue.

I did the paper clip trick on my CEL, and it gave me 71 72 and 74.

and from what I gathered, they were misfire codeson 1 2 and 4?

What should I be replacing or checking?

I checked the spark plugs, they were fine (quite new too).
Should I somehow get the coil packs tested? How would I go about testing coilpacks? Injectors? or maybe even a leakdown test to see if the valves are seating properly?

Thanks!

For coilpacks you just have a known good one and swap it out to see when you achieve no issues.

switch the 3rd to the first and see if it changes to 2 3 4. If it does mark that one good and work your way around cycling the good one in with a suspect bad.

This will help you eliminate the good from the bad and lower the number you have to purchase.

You might want to make sure you have good unblended (i.e. no ethanol) high Octane fuel. I have seen various misfire codes set by bad fuel ove the years.

I never put anything below 91 in my car. Always 91 or 94 when I can get it.

91 octane fuels say at the pump "may contain up to 10% ethanol" could this have an adversary effect on the car?

The manual syas under the Oxygenated Fuel Section (2001 Manual) that one can use up to 10% Ethanol or 15% MTBE. I said no ethanol...which is technically incorrect. Not sure what led you to check the codes (i.e. rough running CEL, etc) but I would be suspicious of fuel if you fueled up at a new stop or if the problem appeared on a new tank of gas. As stated I have seen "bad" fuel cause this. In both cases the person had gone to a new station (one was Sam's club and the other was a Sinclair). Both problems with misfire were corrected with new fuel. The owners manual says:
"If you experience any undesireable operating symptoms, try another fuel or switch to another brand of gasoline".

Just a thought as this is an easy fix if thats what it is.......
