I just got sick of messing with the cap and getting the occasional CEL so I just fixed it when I did a bunch of stuff in the name of keeping it in top shape and preserving it for the long haul. Of course, I only have 18K miles on it so I am looking at a long relationship with this car. Who knows, one of my kids or grandchildren might end up with it someday.

So just an update: I ended up buying a used fuel filler neck and fuel cap from a 2005 and replaced mine. Screws on way easier, and no check engine light.

As a side note, I noticed the 2005 filler neck had a silver hue to it, while my 2002 has a pinkish copper hue to it. Did honda use a different material btw the different years? Also on my 2002 filler neck I noticed a little notch on the top of the threads. Maybe that's the reason behind why it was faulty. Just an idea.
