Did you use high pressure water spray?
Nope, just a regular garden hose and I covered the alternator and battery, blew dry all exposed electric connections before starting the car . I think pressure washing would give u a better result and wouldn't be an issue but u definitely gota be more careful since it's easier to let water get to places you don't want to.

I have a feeling that washing the engine and your codes may be coincidence.

I have washed my engine countless times over 150k miles with a hose on shower setting, and I don't even have a coil cover.

And I literally cover nothing, like the battery or alternator. Everything gets soaked, I am just careful to avoid the airbox opening. I have also done this to many hundreds of other S2000s without issue.

How many miles have you owned the car for?

I hope you are right. I have never heard of anything like this. It is easy to suspect a cause and effect relationship between the engine detail and the codes - but I'm not yet convinced. I hope the OP can get to the bottom of it.

The quality of the water can have an impact. Soft water is the best, of course. Hard water can deposit a variety of minerals lending itself to corrosion and loss of electrical connectivity.
My water from a well is heavily mineral laden. I am careful to cover electrical components with plastic wrap or foil and am careful to dry/clean up thoroughly.

I was hoping you would chime in! although not the comment i was looking for lol

I've only had it for a few weeks and put on only 90 miles. here's what i noticed during my pre purchase inspection. Oil was extremely low probably on the L end of the dip stick. I did test drove it on that day and i did an OBDII scan and found 0 code, but the car did bog a little during idle on one occasion. A few days later, i purchased the car, previous owner put in two more quarts and bring it to about the half way mark of the dip stick before. i haven't been driving the car much because of this and the car is going to get an oil change today along with transmission and diff fluid flushed.

i just drove about 10 miles of stop and go traffic ( 20~25 minutes commute), no CEL yet but the same P1399 pending fault code is still there. i scanned multiple times during my drive and it showed two P1399 code once and then it goes back to just 1 P1399 pending fault. Car is going to go to the shop later today for maintenance and diagnostic hopefully they can ID the issue if there is any.

where would you recommend the shop to look for?

btw i have a 2004 AP2 in case you are wondering. one more piece of info. the previous owner probably only put on 500 miles or less in the last two years of his ownership, when i got the car it only had about 1/4 of the gas tank left so i filled her up , so that possibly eliminates the bad gas variable.

ok shop did the diagnostic, it misfires during idle , cylinder 1 and 3 shows misfire

they checked for any air leaks and nothing

i have an amp so they disconnected from battery to see if it was messing with the voltage since it was blown earlier and i hear a slight hum even after i fixed the blown fuse and connections to the crossover

we are going to let the car cool down and do spark plug and valve adjustment

Edit* spark plug was shot and not correctly gapped. Exhaust side valves were very tight. After new spark plug and valve adjustment , cylinder 1 and 3 was still mis firing at idle based on shops live data diagnostic, misfired probably 200 or so times but no cel but p1399 pending. We went out for a drive everything felt much smoother than before. Live data diagnostic shows it's not misfiring during throttle and driving. Back at the shop and Idled a bit and live data diagnostic shows misfire but has improved to just 20 something times. They had fuel cleaner around so popped that in the gas tank. I used my own obdii and scanned before i left the shop, no code at all. I tried to VTEC and accelerate as much as I can during my commute home which is a good 35 miles drive. Let it idled a little bit when I arrived home and no code.

Issue may be resolved but I will continue to monitor it over next few drives.

Ok i probably put on another 100 miles of combined highway and stop and go traffic since i left the shop. have not seen any code yet

knock on woods that everything is resolved!

Billman called it once again, i think the engine bay washing and the misfiring were just a coincidence

Sounds good. Glad you seem to have it sorted out. Guess I'll keep cleaning my engine bay once a year.
