Default P1259 VTEC Failure and Rough Idle

I have just been to see my honda dealers who did a diagnostic on my new engine (which replaced the 60k one which exploded unexpectedly while overtaking).

I have a CEL which is thrown up after being cleared on ignition / start up with no revving of the engine at all.

Since having the new engine fitted i have also had a very rough idle as well as the 6k RPM rev limiter. The rough idle only happens when you are decelerating to a standstill and it soon levels out after almost stalling.

From what i have read on the forum, because i am getting this CEL before any VTEC (once cleared) it is most likely to be an electrical problem. My question is, if it is rough idling, would that suggest the VTEC solenoid is the problem rather than a straight wiring issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

are you sure they connected the vtec solenoid back up? (wires not dangling all over the place?)

Has is been going on for more than 20 miles of driving? Manual says that the engine could be still learning.

I did do a thorough visual check on the wires as did my garage and don't think there is anything loose.

Does anyone know which is the vtec solenoid connector (where it is) so i pay special attention to that one.

I doubt it is still learning as it throws up the CEL and comes up with the P1259 error code. I have done about 50 miles since with 1 ECU reset after 20 miles.

i was thinking maybe i should replace the whole vtec valve/solenoid assembly with my old one. Any ideas?

Fixed it.

In the end, i just switched the whole vtec solenoid/oil valve assembly over from my old enginge and problem solved. I think it was a slightly damaged connector in the end.

The rough idle seems to be sorting itself out as i drive now.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
