Default P1172 or P2A00 Primary O2 Sensor TSB

I ran into this issue the other day -- codes P1172 or P2A00 and it looks to be the primary O2 sensor. I've searched the forums and came across the TSB:

http://ww2.justanswer.de/uploads/hyb...2012_p1172.pdf

It looks like I need to replace the old sensor with an updated version (part 36531-PZX-013). The TSB says a software update as well. Is the ECU flash necessary or can I just replace the part and clear the ECU? It looks like the only downside of not doing the reflash is that the problem might come back. I don't have a FlashPro so I would presumably have to get the dealer to do the flash for me. Thanks!

I just had this issue come up on my 07 as well. I've searched for fix one here and everyone talks about replacing the sensor but they don't seem concerned about having to get the software update. Honda service appointment scheduled for Wednesday.

Reading details on the TSB, it seems that sensor replacement only (no software update) will bring the car back into good operating order. The software update is meant to help avoid the condition that can cause premature failure of the sensor: the sensor heater coming on while there is too much moisture present. Both codes of this topic hit our '07 at just under 34K miles and a few months beyond warranty time expiration; our VIN is within the range shown on the service bulletin.

Just wanted to follow up on this in case other people run in to the same question. I ended up having the dealer flash the ECU, but they told me that it wasn't strictly necessary, though it may reduce the likelihood of encountering the problem again.
