Default P0505

My MY00 w/ 70k miles hydrolocked about 3-4 weeks ago. The day after it hydrolocked, I pulled the sparkplugs, cleaned out the water, car started, engine didn't sound like it had damage. (Sparkplugs are pending being changed since I don't think they have ever been changed.)

I got around to changing the oil last night, changed it 4 times (5 qts of oil and a filter each change), after the 3rd time, it stopped looking like mud, and pure oil came out. Changed it one more time for good measure.

The car is now throwing a P0505 code, idle control system.

Do yall know what should I check next? Car idle's fine, btw. I read in AllData about holding the car at 3000 rpm and then doing a couple other steps, I just haven't gotten that far yet.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Check the Idle Air Control Valve and all sensors. Basically you need to check all the sensors that run to the PCM (vehicle speed sensor, coolant temp. sensor, air conditioning sensors, power steering pressure sensor, etc.) because the PCM adjusts the idle based on the info it receives from these sensors. You can do visual checks on the sensors to check for damage or corrosion. Also make sure you check for vacuum leaks too.

Here is a link for the IACV from Negcamber

How to clean IACV

Please give some insight as to how this happened.

started the car today, cleared the code, ran it for awhile and code didn't come back on. So i'm going to be keeping an eye on the temp gauge, I think some water may have been in the intake manifold and needed to work its way past the IACV...we'll see...

Incident in further detail:
I have K&N typhoon, a pretty bad storm came through and dumped a lot of water quickly, I have to take a 2 lane road home, and all the roads in TX suck. traffic was backed up and I had to drive under an aboveground railroad crossing, water was about 5-6 inches deep (guessing, it was above my ankle). I rolled through the puddle around 2-3 mph, wasn't going to make it due to the resistance of the water, went to accelerate and car stalled. engine rpm at shutdown was at most 1500. Lemme know if any more questions.

I hate to be Jonny Rain-cloud here, no pun intended, but usually a hydrolock like that can do some extensive damage like bent rods and such.

How is it running? You had to change the oil 4 times.

Runs as normal, no abnormal noises or anything.

Haven't VTECd it yet since I would like to put more miles on it before that, to see if I notice anything else.

If you catch it quick and take the water out of the oil, cylinders, plugs etc. you shouldn't have an issue.

Maybe run the car a bit more and do one more oil change for good luck.

Check compression

^Yea i was going to run it for awhile then change again.

Sparkplugs have never been changed so I was going to check compression when I change them out, they are looking kinda nasty, especially after they sat in water for a little bit.

Yes, good idea to change the plugs asap, I thought you did already
