Default P0410 Question

Had a cel just show up today which is the p0410 which I found out is related to the secondary air injection system and I had a few questions about it. First of all Will it hurt anything at all to drive the car that way? I don't completely understand what the Secondary air injection system relates too. Second I know izzy makes a delete kit for that which I've heard fixes the cel and gets rid of everything. For 65.00 is that the best route to get rid of the check engine light? I've looked at a few different threads and I really don't want to go with expensive oem parts unless it's absolutely necessary.
Thanks!

No, it should not harm the car to drive it with that system disabled. There are a few members here that have disabled the system and have been running for a long time with no issues. The car will have a cel with the system disabled or non-functioning. You may not be able to pass an emission check if you have that sort of thing in your area. The secondary air system is 100% emission related. It's sole purpose in life is to inject a small amount of clean air into the exhaust when the engine is cold. The basic premise is to heat the exhaust up quickly on cold start using the rich fuel mixture combined with the injected "secondary" air. The quicker the exhaust is heated up the faster the catalytic convertor can begin chemically "cleaning " the exhaust emissions. The convertor does not become effective until it's core temperature is around 200 to 300c so the quicker it gets there the fewer emissions are produced.

I'm running a test pipe and my car is far from stock so to me it sounds like that is a useless system. I don't have emissions in my area but the cel is bugging me so I should be fine with the izzy system and removing all the oem junk?

The secondary air system minimizes emissions by injecting air when the car is cold. No harm if run without. Most hard P0410 sets are related to one of 2 things. Failure of the pump (buy Iz fix) or newly installed CAI's; reverse the small white check valve in the small black hose.
