Owning an S2000 =
I would not feel comfortable bringing my car to any shop in the area, or any other area for that matter, aside from people you know on the forum like BILLMAN, and other members you can trust.
There are SOO many horror stories about bringing your S2K to a local shop and having it essentially raped by an incompetent S2K mechanic. IMO, If your not competent enough to perform your own service on your S2000, You should not have an S2000. It's very easy to do a search on the forum here and fix ANY problem your S2K might have with good instruction from fellow members.
Am I the only member who feels this way?

I feel the same way man. I NEVER let a shop touch my S unless completely neccessary (i.e. alignments, paint work, mouting tires, ect..) I was only 18 when I pulled the shortblock out of my S and replaced it all myself with the help of my older brother (only 21 at the time). I already knew a lot and have done engine replacements before, and also took a 2 year course in Automotive Technology at my local technical school. Definetly helped me a lot, and I am very happy since I can do pretty much anything on my S myself. I think everyone needs to at least learn all of the basics, and not be taking thier S to Jiffy Lube or Wally-World to get an oil change..

The problem is that Honda is a company that makes "appliances" (relatively low hp, low demands, fwd cars), and the S2000 (and NSX) are simply too different in needs and care from 99.9% of other Hondas (high hp, higher demands, rwd cars, special engines and component systems).
Techs are generally fine on other Hondas but few really know about the special care needed for certain aspects of the S2000. Techs need to take special education to work on parts of the S, and frankly many don't bother with such things because the cars are so rare. That is why you see so many problems and misinformation - bad alignments, incorrect fluids, wrong parts even. I had to show a service manager how to start my S2000 once.
I've had Honda techs and service managers tell me I need tire rotations and incorrect oil viscosities, and give me blank stares when I ask about specifics like the top latches. They just don't know S2000s, and why should they when they may not see one in the shop for months at a time. You really need a specialist that not only is familiar with the car, but also knows the tricks to getting things fixed better than normal.

i feel the same. you know how many times ive been told to use VTM4 pump fluid in the rear diff?
its incredable that they dont send the techs to school to learn how to service these things. it isnt your common civic. Yes its vtec, no its not your moms d15 single cam vtec.
i dont take my car to anyone. flat out. i just dont trust them to know what to and what not to do.

It really depends what kind of place you go to, around here there are a few places that are familiar with s2000's
for example the place I go, one of the guys used to have a s2k before.. Another place I've been to - 2-3 of the guys working there have s2k's, etc
