Listing back to the video however I think it sounds weirdly loud. In truth I can't remember what it sounded like idling beforehand (it's been a few months since the car has been started). I set the valves on the loose side of the accepted tolerances and was expecting noise, question is, is that too damn loud?

I'm planning to investigate the condition of my pulley bearings to see if they're contributing to the noise, but I'd appreciate if someone with experience of running an S2000 with looser valve adjustments could chip in here and hopefully put my mind at ease!

Funnily enough, I replaced the TCT with a Ballade Sports item a few days previous...that video was the first time starting the engine since the TCT replacement and valve clearance job.

Did you confirm you had tct noise before you replaced it?

Or did you do it for maintenance reasons?

I had a little intermittent TCT clicking on a hot engine, but mostly I just did it as preventative maintenance.

When you installed the TCT, did it sit flush against the engine on it’s own, or did you have to draw it in with the bolts?

Too a small degree I had to draw it in with the bolts a couple of millimetres. Do you think I should have rotated the crank a little instead?

Your chain is over tightened.

Check the oem orings on the old tct (just make sure they are not flattened out), and put the oem tensioner back in the car.

Drawing the the tct in with the bolts is asking for instant chain damage. The unit has to sit flush first.

Oh dear...I still have the old tct so I can do that, but what to do with the Ballade sport item? As I say, it was only 2 or 3mm away from the block and I ran the engine for about 2 minutes without driving the car...should I worry about chain damage?

It cannot be draw in any amount at all. At that point it is not a tensioner it is a block of metal.
