over revved........

Maybe take better pictures of retainers 6,7, and 8. Also those "bolt thingies" on top of the retainers are the lock-nut and adjustment screws for setting the valve clearance. You would use a feeler gauge and slip it between that and the valve in order to do a valve adjustment.

You prolly gonna need to pull the rocker shaft assembly off the head, to get a good look at where the cracks are. At that point, might as well replace the retainers. Just for peace of mind. Sorry about the news.

From what I can see, they look good. None of the pictures are perfect enough to be sure. If the camera lights up the tiny 45 degree margin, and it's clear, I can be sure.

Yeah beyond 1-5 I can't tell squat from those pictures except none are obviously sunken, I am not sure how anyone else can see anything. To me 1 through 5 look just fine, that said you just overreved, my understanding is that it takes time.

What's the verdict on aftermarket titanium valve retainers and valves? Long term, hi-R use. Any other issues with using titanium, other than beaucoup bucks?
Thanks!
Thanks!

6 7 look cracked from the picture, I'm guessing #8 is not going to fare much better. Those are typically the ones that tend to break, for some reason the cylinders close to the fire wall are the first to suffer on our cars, I guess since that part of the engine has all the other stuff bolted to it, and also happens to be furthest away from the oil pump. The head has very tiny oil openings as well but it kind of has to to minimize windage in the valve train.
Thanks Jeggy! Will get back to you once I get on facebook.

You're good! I would check them again after you do your next oil change just to be sure.

It is only an AP1 issue, AP2s tend to bend valves. I kinda hesitate to call it a problem as no car is designed to be overreved and cracking retainers is better than bending valves, provided you catch it before it drops a valve. although I still think AP1s can bend valves too.
