a new set of retainers from Honda is only around 67 dollars. Better than several thousand..

Don't take it there, they're going to want to replace all your valves, retainers, resurface your head (if not replace it), I mean the list will build up really really fast.

how can 2nd instead of 4th cause a overev?
When i race i usual am going lets say...48 mph in 5th or 4th, i drop it into second and it scoots off, not overrev.
Were you going 70 in third

You really have to redefine racing if you think 50mph in 5th is really getting on it.

When you are making redline upshifts and accidentally downshift instead -- well that's why they call it "the money shift".

If you do decide to change your retainers down the road, you might want to think about running F22 valve retainers which are supposed to be a little beefier.
are there any aftermarket companies that sell stronger retainers for the ap1? maybe even retainers that can survive an overrev?
i belive that would be a wise choice if you allow others to drive your S aggresively. which i do.
