Don't take it there, they're going to want to replace all your valves, retainers, resurface your head (if not replace it), I mean the list will build up really really fast.

how can 2nd instead of 4th cause a overev?

When i race i usual am going lets say...48 mph in 5th or 4th, i drop it into second and it scoots off, not overrev.

Were you going 70 in third
Normal cruising in 5th at 70-100mph will result in an over-rev if you drop it into 2nd for a typical pass.

You really have to redefine racing if you think 50mph in 5th is really getting on it.

Take the oportunity since you have the valve cover off to do the inspection to go a valve job. You probably need one anyways.

On the track I'm doing 50mph in second.

When you are making redline upshifts and accidentally downshift instead -- well that's why they call it "the money shift".

If you do decide to change your retainers down the road, you might want to think about running F22 valve retainers which are supposed to be a little beefier.
would the ap2 retainers allow the f20 to rev to 9k safely? i remember reading on here about switching ap1 for ap2 retainers but the author was not sure how the ap2's will handle at 9k. has anyone found answers to that yet?
are there any aftermarket companies that sell stronger retainers for the ap1? maybe even retainers that can survive an overrev?
i belive that would be a wise choice if you allow others to drive your S aggresively. which i do.

Yes, but they have other issues. The basic choice is Ti retainers which give you a higher RPM limit but have a limited lifespan (variously quoted as 5K-20K miles) or the OEM retainers which have an effectively unlimited lifespan but are heavier and so have a lower RPM limit.
