The retainers can be distorted (dished and cracked) and the valves slowly slip out of their keepers until (at an undetermined later date/time/mileage) your motor is toast.

That's the problem. If you suspect an over-rev ... get a trusted Honda S2000 Tech to do a thorough inspection. Piece of mind.
