Default original brake pades at 82K, crazy!

My original pads on my 2002 are at 82K miles and still have 1/8th of an inch left. I've never had a set of pads last more than 30K before, is this common on the S? Is there any reason to replace the pads just because of age? It's my daily driver so it gets a lot of commuter miles, but I do tool around on mountain roads (never on a track or anything like that).

1/8 of an inch is pretty low, so I'd get ready to purchase another set. At your rate of wear, that may be a while yet! New pads are about 10mm. When you get to about 2mm, you'll hear the indicator screeching; 1/8 inch converts to about 3mm.

I've seen cars with 120K+ with 6mm remaining on the original pads. Big brakes not used that often last a long time. 1.6mm is replacement level

It's like my late father said when I was bragging about the brake life on my '88 Grand Am with the Quad4 5 speed:

"Son you've got to use something to wear it out."

Still on the OEMs at 51K+.

I'm at 164,000 miles and still on my original brake pads, both front and back. From the looks of it, I have over 3mm left.

Admittedly, the majority of my miles are highway. I'm also on my original clutch.

In the same boat.

149K on original pads and clutch. Even have a road course day on them, they will go soon though.

it really depends on how u drive the car/how hard u brake/ things like that..age really doesnt come into affect. ive got an 07 and just changed all the brakes at 42k miles..honda did all them for 342 and some change..and they r lifetime so whenever they get low i just take them and they replace them at no cost. and they r the same brakes that come stock on the veh. ur running pretty low..if i were u i would start thinking about changing them...call ur honda and c if they have that deal????

i see three reasons...
1) a lot of highway driving?
2) very light coupe
3) MT lets you engine brake

Glad to hear this, i hope at 38k mine lase that long
