Opening the Center Console
Everytime I brake pretty harder than usual the center console just flops open by itself.
It just started happening out of no where, I never slammed it shut real hard before.. or I don't think it was ever that hard to make it loose.
Also when closing it, it won't close all the way and I have to occasionally hit the opening device up top to ensure its closed.
I searched "center console" but I only found out about the cigarette lighter becoming loose.
Thanks for looking,

you can buy a new "cup holder" for little to nothing. if you take the console out, you'll see its on a little gear, and a plastic mechanism is how it clicks down and locks/unlocks.
it could be worn....Im not sure, never heard of this particular problem

I think hes talking about the other compartment under the secret compartment.
Since he said it flops open and he had to hit the button that opens it. If it is that just make sure you close it all the way, you gotta close it pretty hard for it to close. I sometimes think its closed when its really not. Just try putting some more umpg into closing it

Yea its not the secret compartment, but the place right below like qbmurderer13 said.
The tired spring in the latch sounds correct becuase the latch that you press to open it is really loose on the door of the lower compartment.

Don't pack so much weed in there and the door will close fine.
Seriously, you could do a couple of things before buying a new lock/latch mechanism which is about $23+. First, check the metal bar that is located under the secret compartment. The cam latch grabs onto this and if it's bent or loose could result in poor closure. Second; now this is counterintuitive, lubricate the lock/latch mechanism. All that herb might be gumming up the inner workings. Use the least amount you need of a silicone spray to get it latching correctly.
OT but a friend had a faulty front compartment in his car that would drop open sometimes. On a first date with a hot chick he put a box of condoms in there thinking he'd get lucky. After picking her up he hits a pot hole and of course it pops open. His presumption resulted in an early night.
