Default Open driver's door dome light does not come on

About 3/4 of the time when I open the driver's side door the dome light does not come on, but when I close it and reopen it will. Sometimes it will only stay on till the door is half open then turn off when it is all the way open.

This has been a large problem because I do not get that annoying sound when I have accidentally left the headlights while opening the door, and have left the headlights on after locking the car.

Any ideas? I'm guessing it's a sensor, but not exactly sure what to do.

Check the switch on the door that activates it, its covered by a rubber booth. Pull the booth back and spray some WD-40 on it and push it in with your hand a few times. Its most likely sticking.

Did you check the sesnor in the door? Maybe the latch switch is binding?

That switch gets FILTHY after a while. It takes just a single screw to get to it, then clean the contacts. My dome light works properly every time now that I've done that.

^^ I think that thread is talking about the switch in the actual dome light. I (and the OP, I think) was talking about the switch in the door frame. Two very different things...
