I'm doubtful the AP1's faster than the AP2. If for no other reason than the AP2 has an effectively lower first 4 gears. If you watch BMI video's, typically the AP2's faster.
In all honestly the extra 1000 rpms is like 4wd on a truck. You use it once in a while. I wouldn't base my purchase decisions on it. I'd get the newest one you can afford because Honda's made improvements as the years went on. For example the '02 got a better transmission than the 00-01.
Have you looked at the insurance yet? I'd look at it first. You may be shocked and find that it kills the deal.

As for insurance, I dont have to pay for that. It would be outrageous for me to pay that, so I am luckily only left with the car payment.
Once again guys, thanks for the info. I really am an S2k noob.

I like both to be honest. Both has it's tradeoff's but I know I wouldn't be buying this car if I only made 700 every two weeks. If I was you get a beater car and save money. You got your whole life to have a nice car. Good luck on your purchase.

It does sound like you're getting in over your head. I assume you're Living at home. All it would take is one major repair on your 5-6 year old car and you're SOL. Tires are $800, you have to run Super.

Sounds like your parents will be taking car of your insurance. Will they be taking care of your maintenance also? Like Ek9 said, tires are a pretty penny. Super unleaded doesnt' come all that cheap either.
Like the others have said, it seems like you might be over your head with the purchase. However, if your parents have your back in case you run into financial trouble, I guess that would help.

Here is some advice....read my story
started off working at heb, making 5.62 a hour, bought me a 5k dollar truck, paid it off, save up 2 grand.....went to honda dealer when i turned 18, with my parents....bought a 00' silverstone with 58k miles, put 6500 down. i pay 280ish a month for 4 years. My insurance for full coverage is 263 a month, so each month i pay around 600 bucks just to have my car. I work at lowes right now at 8.12 a hour, full time college student, living at home. I just got promoted and now make 12 a hour, and am full time. I wake up every morning at 5 am, go to work till 2, then go to school till 7. my life is very stressful and hard, but i love my s2k so much that i will do it anytime.
If you think its worth it, do it.....

[QUOTE=mic_crispy,Aug 22 2006, 03:49 AM] ive had both and i dissagree. if anything, the ap2 "feels" like it gets to 60 faster... but thats the magic of more torque for you... it may feel faster, but isnt.
but anyway my point is, its not slower.

Also I dont really feel the 10 ft lbs torque on the Ap2 due to the larger wheels and tires. I knwo for a fact the Ap2's should be a little faster though, especially on the track.

So even though I am only making $600 every 2 weeks right now, it wont be that hard on me to make just car payments.
The only reason for me financing 5-6 years is because I want to have some $ left over for things I think I want/need, such as going to the movies and providing my own food.
