Ok to change Fluids early?
Hello,
I just wanted ya'lls opinion on changing the trans and diff's fluid early. I have an 05 with almost 5K miles on it. Once it hits 5K miles, I will be changing the engine oil for the first time and wanted to know if it's okay to change the tranny and diff fluids.
The reason as to why I am asking is because the motor has break in oil that should be in there for at least 5K miles and at most 7.5K miles. Is there such a thing as break in oil for the tranny and diff? If not, I would like to change it out to get rid of any of the metal shavings that could be in there.
Or is it pointless and just to wait till 15K miles for the trans and diff fluid?
Thanks,
Mike

Actually, the diff fluid has high sulfer content and that's why it smells like it does (bad). I'm a strong proponent of getting that diff fluid OUT early on the first change. Breaking in a rear diff is a very harsh process and I like to get that initial crud out. I've even professed to change that first batch out at 2000 miles, (especially on an aftermarket swap), then every year or 10K miles after that.
The tranny can be changed too but it's not as important.
