Oil Selection

Any 0,5,or 10w- 30 or 40 weight synthetic is fine, everything else is personal preference. Keep your oil full and change it every 7k and you'll be fine.

I would not say "most are running Amsoil" by any stretch. Although certain Amsoil Distributors would have you believe that was the case. Great oil by the way! I ran it for some time but went back to a synthetic petroleum.

No doubt it is a quality oil but you pay for what you get. I happen to use (first time) the MTF synchromesh and its seems to be great when warmed up.
I happen to like to change the oil at 3K miles with an OEM filter so I go Mobil 1 0W-30 from Wal Mart-5qts for $25. Amsoil would be too much for that. You can leave Amsoil in much longer than 3K miles but, once again, I like to change it at 3K miles. No real overriding technical reason; it gives me an excuse to putts with the car.

I'm using Castrol Edge (formerly called Sytnec) because it seems to give me the least consumption.
I tried the MTF from Amsoil, and it felt really notchy and exasperated my 3rd gear grind (which is pretty much nonexistent with GM Synchromesh).
Not saying Amsoil products aren't good (it seems that many AP1 transmissions are a bit finicky about MTF selection), it just wasn't the right fluid for my transmission.

I love Amsoil, but this time around I didn't have over $80 for the 6 quarts of that oil alone, so I went with Castrol Edge for half the price. I use either or and both are great oils. After 8K on the Amsoil it still felt brand new when I drained it. Next time I use Amsoil I might push it to 10K between changes. The stuff is that good...

Motul v300 Chrono 10w40
Only the best is good enough.
For the general daily driver with fairly tight change intervals then I agree with Slowcrash except for the 0. At least I wouldnt go 0w-40.
0w-30 for no track should be fine. If you track your car I'd look at 10w-40 or at least 5w-40.
