Oil Report
So my Oil report states there is some sodium in my oil. Eithier from coolant or oil additive. Im using Mobil 1 synth fwiw. My coolant level dosent change, its possible that i checked my oil with a rag with some coolant on it would that make a difference. Also the sample sat for 2 months before it was processed. It was sealed and package but it still sat. Should i be concerned here? My sodium level was at 42.

Was there any comment from the UOA company about the sodium?
What type of Mobil1 are you using?
Have you used other brands before, if so how long and how long ago?
IIRC Valvoline uses sodium as an additive, 400+ ppm is just normal.
After looking at several UOA's of 5W-30 / 10W-30 Mobil1 - no S2000 - on BITOG, your 42 ppm looks to be high as the UOA's have a ppm of 12-20 or so.
On one UOA a sodium count of 35 is not even mentioned as being bad though
You state you're not loosing coolant, so it is most likely additive.
If you plan to keep using the oil that you're using now you could send in a sample straight out of the bottle.
That will confirm it all.

Was there a corresponding rise in Potassium (K) on your sample?
How much Sodium (Na) was there?
If no K, then I suspect that it is residual Na from a previous oil, or an additive in the M1 formula. And which M1 were you using? There are too many to count anymore!
Also, if you are still troubled by this on your next oil change, send a sample to Dyson Analysis. Their lab actually tests for glycol:

Im using regular Mobil 1 10w-30 full synthetic. This is from my first oil change since I owned the car so possibly there could have been a different oil in there or possibly some additives. I myself am not using any. The report shows 0 Potassium in the sample. So thats good right?

they usually list the percentage of coolant separately from sodium content at the bottom rows of the chart, what was the percentage of coolant <.5% ?
Also, was your car driven in winter ?, does the car have an aftermarket intake ?, if so it is possible a bit of road salt caused a bump in the sodium count.
On bobistheoilguy.com forums, do a search of the virgin oil analysis section of the website and find virgin sample results for Mobil1 that you are using. There are tons of results there for oils in virgin state, this will help you understand how much sodium is used in the oil formulation as an additive, then the rest of the sodium in your analysis may have been picked up externally.
Wiping a rag would not cause sodium to go up in the entire engine sump oil content, it could if you rubbed the rag on the oil sample container, but not really a dipstick.

Mobil1 in virgin form has sodium levels around 10 ppm based on the charts posted at BITOG

looks like something added the remaining levels to your oil, unless it had remnants of other oil like you stated.
Get another analysis done in future months and see if it has decreased back to normal levels.
