I recently read that Castrol was changing (has changed?) its synthetic oil from a fully synthetic base to a chemically modified organic (conventional) base.
There reason was it cost less to produce, but they did not plan on any cost reductions for the consumer...
I'd stick with Mobil 1 or Redline.

I also went with a full synthetic (Mobil 1) at the first oil change, 3,000 miles. Modern engines don't need much breaking in. Many engines (Porsche, BMW, Ferrari) come with full synthetic from the factory. And specify LONG oil change intervals...

Thinking I was done with the breakin period and considering the dirty oil, I changed to synthetic too soon. I was burning much too much oil, until I switched back to reg oil for a time. Those extra long oil change intervals with synthetic as per Porsche may allow the engine to breakin if the synthetic loses its synthetic advantages along the way.

pfb where did you hear that Castrol was going to non-sythetic base? Was it reliable? As far as I know, Syntec is still full synthetic. I can't imagine them changing it and still call it Syntec.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep a closer eye on what Castrol is doing. I agree that there is probably not much difference between synthetics, but are worth the money over conventional. I've been using Syntec (S2K and Grand Cherokee) and GTX (323 GTX) for the entire lives of my current cars, so I'll be reluctent to change. But if Castrol does something different with Syntec, then maybe...
