I understand your concern over your new car, but you are blowing this out of proportion. It is obvious you haven't mastered the art of oil changes yet, so it is possible you didn't put the correct amount in the first place. We are all also assuming you are checking your oil correctly and controlling all the variables like car location, temperature, etc.

Just put enough oil in so that the car's oil level is correct. Moniter the oil consumption by checking the car cold, in the same location, etc. every couple hundred miles. If the car burns noticeable amounts, take it to the dealer and demand some answers.

To reiterate what has been said in the previous posts and make clear
the procedures for refilling the engine after an oil change:-

1) Check filter and drain plug for tightness;

2)Add specified amount of oil, as per owners manual;

3)Check dipstick- oil should show somewhere in the x'd section;

4)Start engine ,run fingers around base of filter to check for leaks
(also check drain bolt for leaks);
5)Shut of engine, wait about 5mins then check dipstick- you will usually
find that the oil is in the bottom part of the x's;

6) Add enough oil(approx. 1/2 qt.) to bring the oil level up to the top
of the x's.

Unless you followed this procedure it is very hard to assist you with
your "problem".

i asked for you help when doing my first oil change and you recomended castrol 10w-30 and told me it would be the same or even better than Honda Oil.

any ways i read you other posts and it was due past my 6 month mark (about 8 months) when i hit 3000 miles.

thanks for the input who have insight to the problem
My recommendations to you have not changed. I was merely agreeing with RACER when he's confused about your confusion.
There should be no confusion here on your part. An oil change at 3000 miles should not have influenced your oil consumption. The use of Castrol 10W30 is also the correct way to go. You should not have questioned this. Going with synthetic at this time is not recommended.

Thanks a lot for your input.
I'll monitor it for a few hundred miles and see if if was me that didnt put enough oil in the beginning or if it is really burning oil. I park it in the garage and no stains on the floor. Thanks a million for your insight

I think this theory of 10k miles on a 2004+ is bullshit. My service manual says synthetic is ACCEPTABLE. I guess this means it's o.k.? I changed mine @ 1500 miles and used Mobil 1 10-30 around a year ago. Odometer now reads 5900 ish and I have never added oil. Why is it bad to use synthetic oil if it is more slippery and sticks to metal better than regular oil. The military uses synth oil so they can jump in and go. So it breaks in slower than with regular oil. I thought longevity was the goal.

You have possibly shortened the overall life of your engine. The reason you are not supposed to use synthetic for the first 10k is because of the Fiber Reinforced Metallic cylinder walls. Because of this, piston rings, etc, can take much longer to break in and seat properly.

While using synthetic before 10k will not necessarily provide any immediate harm, you could see trouble down the road sooner rather than later. you've been on this site over 4 years, and that's the 2nd thing you've stated in the last day that was not exactly well advised/researched. even the ap2 owner's manual (to my knowledge) states not to use synthetic before 10k.
I can assure you my piston rings, etc. were seated by 3,000 miles. Redline probably 1,500 times or more and multiple heat cycles. Interesting that I haven't burned one single drop of oil in over 6,000 miles with over 3k on sythetic and you think I'll have motor problems down the road?

Not to mention, I'll be rid of the car before the factory warranty has expired.

Finally, what else did I say that wasn't well advised/researched? There's another guy on here going by QUICKAG or something that is NOT me.

yeah that was the other quickag. sorry about that.

as for the synthetic thing, it's what the manufacturer recommends. if you feel you know better than honda's engineers, then so be it.

and since the issue has solved, rather than let this thread degrade anymore, i'll lock it.
