Default Oil pressure issue.

backgorund on what happened,

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=535446

in short, SC was replaced due to catasrophic failure and I put everything back together. it runs fine except I have this guggling noise that sounds like it's coming from bearing in SC.

So, the other day, I took everything apart for third time and inspected oil feed line to SC. this oil feed line is coming from where oil pressure sensor is attached. there are a bit of plumbing so the oil feed line and oil pressure sensor is sharing the line. I felt that the line and the fitting is dry but I do not have OIL light on. is that mean I'm getting oil fed into the line?

since S2000 does not have oil sending unit (at least I believe for MY2000 model), only other cause is oil pump is bad. if oil pump is bad, shouldn't motor blew up while ago? I have about 300 miles since I replaced the SC. How do I check if Oil pump is bad?

I appreciate your help. thanks!

If you get the oil light when you turn the key to "on" and the light goes out within a second of starting your car, you have oil pressure. However, that doesn't tell you how much oil pressure you have. Personally, I'd install an oil pressure switch & gauge if you have an SC.

Your engine would freeze up in less than a minute if you didn't have oil pressure.

With a warm engine, does the line going to the SC feel hot? I can't imagine how this wouldn't work as long as the line is big enough to get the flow you want.

feeling the oil line temperature sounds good. I'll try that later. I'll post the result later. thanks.

btw, engine runs fine and I do not have oil light at all. I also checked the oil level and it looks good.

If you're not getting an oil light when you turn the key before starting the engine, it's possible that the oil pressure switch is not grounded. The oil pressure switch is nothing more than an on/off switch. When there's less than about 6 psi, the switch is closed, lighting up the oil light. Oil pressure causes the pressure switch to open the circuit.

If you used teflon tape to seal the plumbing fittings, it's possible that there's no ground from the oil pressure switch to the engine. There's only one wire to the oil pressure switch, and the circuit is completed through the ground. With that extra plubming you have, you really want to know if/when your engine were to lose oil pressure. If you don't install a gauge, I'd definitely get that idiot light working.

I've checked few thing as mentioned earlier.

oil light - when I put key on and turn it all the way to ignition, it's on. as soon as engine is idling, it goes off so I think it's working properly.

oil feed line temperature - I ran the to 3 bars and checked it. it was hot but I wasn't sure whether it's from oil or engine room temperature. So I waited 'til engine cooled down and started engine with hood up. after idling for awhile, the line became hot although engine room wasn't hot.

So I'm concluding that oil is getting through. thanks you very much for your help. now I need to look at other things for cause of the noise.

cheers.

It can be many thing.

First please check that...

1. The guggling noise goes away when you bring up the RPM? or it gets worse?
2. Do you have any oil leak on SC sandwich plate between VTEC solonoid unit?
3. Does this sound happens on cold start?

hi!

these are the answers to your question.

1. I don't recall it's happening at higher RPM.
2. I do not have leak.
3. it's actually noisier after drive.

for #1, I'll recheck it and let you know. thanks for helping me out.

cheers!

Get an oil pressure and temp gauge on there.
I have them on mine it is a good way to real way to find out what it is doing.
I discovered my oil pump needs attention this way.
I get 35psi @ idle and only 13 psi when it warms up.
Running pressure is ~85 psi hot and cold.
Temps are good but I get to 117C after hard driving.
