Default oil pan sealant removal

How do you guys easily remove the sealant residue on the oil pan? I find it hard to get to.

Gently scrape the bigger stuff with a plastic puddy knife, and then use a brown scotchbrite pad to get it spotless. Use soapy water as a lubricant to make it easier.

thank you, how much sealant to put on the oil pan? if excess sealant is exposed inside the pan after installation, would it contaminate the oil over time?
