Oil Overfill

Oil Overfill
I took my 2001 to have the oil changed and they told me it took 6 quarts. The oil level is right above the H. Should I be concerned? I know it is only supposed to take 5.1 quarts. I'm definately doing my own oil changes from now on.

quite a few people report putting in 5.8 quarts into the S2K, including Billman250, so I suspect you are fine. You can also overfill these cars by a bit without issue to some extent, there is a windage tray to reduce the chance of aeration. They probably put in 5.5 or 5.8 quarts and just charged you for six. lol.

i think the stated full capacity is 5.9L for a bone-dry engine. Depending on the shop, it might have used slightly more than 5 quarts and charged you for 6 total quarts.

Ok, thanks everyone. I think I'll just change it myself next time and add 5.5 quarts to begin with and check the level as I go. Definately easier to add than take it out. Just got the car a few months ago, so I'm still learning my way around it. Thanks again.

You are very wrong. Oil overfill on an s2k will result in the crank smashing into the oil, sending the oil up into the PCV and oil hydrolock (snapping a connceting rod).
Happened to one of my customers at the dragon due to 3/4 qt overfill.

I don't trust the engineers factor of safety. Its not very hard to loosen the oil drain bolt (not remove) and let a little bit leak out. I'd definitely do that instead of "wait it out" especially if they did actually put in 6 qts and didnt do a proper drain. If I'm a bit lazy on my oil draining (not waiting long enough, not dropping the front end) 5qts puts me really close to the H. You need to remember that as the oil heats up, it'll also expand! I always keep my car (at max) one X below H and at the lowest, one X below the middle.. (measured cold)
