Oil Life Light
I have a 2006 s2000, I wasnt sure I have the oil life 15% notification and I wasnt sure if they have a sensor in there that actually measures the oil life or is it just based on the trip a and b on your dash? basically do i really have to change my oil because I believe its kind of early for a oil change. Thanks alot guys

My ap2 is based on miles alone.
Oil life as a percent showed up with dbw. 06+
Op it's based on Rpms, heat, distance and a few other factors to determine life. It doesn't know the grade or type of oil. So it's assume Dino not syn.

Not necessarily. It really depends on what kind of driving he does and also what type of oil he's using. If he's using one of the top tier synthetics, changing the oil at 5k miles would just be a waste.

I use synthetic oils and change my engine oil based on the OLI% remaining and here are my records so far:
Miles driven before oil change and the OLI%:
3046 mi @ 50%
5157 mi @ 15%
4937 mi @ 20%
5640 mi @ 15%
5626 mi @ 10%
5709 mi @ 5%
From this you can see that it's not linear which indicates that it's not based on mileage on MY08. But from my driving style, it's around 5~6k miles before I reach OLI=5%.
Since the OLI is based on dino oil, I am definitely changing the oil too soon before my synthetic oil is used up. I concluded that it's safer this way since I haven't obtained any UOA samples to predict the life left in my engine oil. One thing I was considering is to change the oil filter around OLI=50%.

P.S. The AP1 doesn't have a notification light.
