oil level
are honda worried about the oil level in the s2000?
I have just had a 18,000m service, noticed a large sign in the dealers reception area warning of checking oil level also when got in care there was a large plastic sealed bag with 1ltr of mobil semi synthetic oil and a smaller version of the sign on A4 this was free of charge!!
I know the car uses oil, but is there a problem?

This is to remind their service geniuses to check the oil only when the car is level.
Seriously, though, the S2000 uses oil during the break in period. This can last till as much as 10K miles. Special cylinder liners and such. Mine started to taper off to almost nothing at about 3000 miles.

Hey XVIPER i am picking up my car today. I read in the new car section of this site that you should perform the first oil change at around 5,500 miles. Should I stick to that number then change every 3,000 miles?
Thanks

You original oil should be changed at 3,750, no exceptions.
Do NOT change to synthetic until after 5,500 miles, but to be safe you should wait until after 12,000 when the motor is fully broken in.
The 3,000 mile "rule" for changing oil is a good one, but it doesn't always apply. You should change your oil by the way it looks and smells, not by mileage.

Just got back my Blackstone Labs oil analysis from my second oil change. My first oil change was between 3750 and 3800 miles and my second oil change was at 7658 miles. Their comments included, "Appears your engine is breaking in nicely" They also recommended going to a 4000 mile change interval, for my next oil change.
I used Mobil dino oil 10W/30 (not synthetic) for both oil changes and am using a Mobil 1 oil filter. I plan on changing to Mobil 1 10W/30 synthetic at my next change as I'll be over 10,000 miles.
