Default Oil Leak from Timing Chain Tensioner Cover

I thought I had a VTEC solenoid leak but it looks like the leak is actually coming from the TCT cover.

Am I risking any damage to the motor by pulling off the cover (2 bolts) and replacing the gasket under it? I thought I saw Billman say in another thread that this could upset the TCT's position.

Pulling just the cover will cause no problems at all.

Get the triangle cover gasket right from honda. 2 bucks.

Is it going to dump a bunch of oil when I pull the plate off? Do I need to drain the oil first?

No need to drain oil.

A few drips will come out, if any at all. Catch with paper towel.

If any drips on the coolant hose straight below, be sure to wipe it off. Oil destroys hoses.

If you let the car sit, all the oil will be collected in your pan so when you pull the cover off you will have just residue left. And as Billman said, clean up any droplets that might get on the coolant hose.

You'll be fine.

Hello,

Were you able to resolve this? And also did replacing that timing chain cover gasket fix the issue? I think I may be having the same issue? If you did replace it do you have the part number for that triangle gasket?

Thanks

I thought there's a cover over the TCT and there's a gasket inside it which was what billman was referring to

Thanks Billman. Just want to double check if this is the right part you're referring to 91308-PCX-004?

Also I just acquired the car at 114k miles and going through the service history the TCT has not been replaced but not sounds noted so far. If I'm going to replace the gasket to hopefully address the leak, would it be a better move to upgrade the TCT all together?
