I do not doubt that this is a good filter but the skeptic in me always prompts some questions..
1) I thought most filters are simply a balancing act between filtering and obstruction forcing the opening of the bypass valve.. so too good a filter can work against you.
2) With regular changes of premium oil and factory filters, most engines will last longer than the other major components.. was a better filter really needed?
3) The promotion is from the manufacturer, so it is easy to question if the tests are clearly representative of real world performance and needs.
Just curious about the cost/benefit as compared to an OEM filter.

Wait.. Fram makes a filter thats better than Mobil 1? I thought the Fram Toughgard was just good enough to be mediocre.. and I thought Mobil 1's filter had a higher efficiency than this graph lists.. it doesnt seem right to me.

8-10 Microns? Our aircraft test benches use .5 Microns as a standard. 8-10 we term "Rock Catchers". I'm gonna have to research this one a lot more. I don't know what the industry standard is...great thread! Thanks for the post. I'll be back .

Here is a quote and link to a page by a guy who has tried to figure out filters. I do not know how accurate his observations are..
AC Delco Ultraguard Gold
This filter appears to be a Champion Labs filter. This is not surprising given that Champion Labs also manufacturers other AC Delco filters for some european vehicles. See the German Oil Filter Study.

Great link Chris. Thanks.
After reading about cde's oil filter failure, it makes one wonder if the Mobil 1 isn't the way to go. It sounded like it was built stronger. Oooops. Until I came to the part about structural failure due to a backplate seam splitting.
Me? I'm sticking with Honda and with Valley Motor Honda. It gives me an excuse for window shopping a couple of times a year and also gives me fewer places to point fingers if anything goes wrong.
