The OEM tool is too small in diameter, or the wrong flutes idk.

You need to tap it on with some sort of light hammering tool. Like the handle of a ratchet.

Then it fits snug. You then need to also remove it by tapping or prying it off.

Its really annoying.

That's my experience as well with these things. Before the filter is on the car, I get the tool snug on the filter, but only just as snug as it needs to be since I gotta get it off afterwards.

Last season I was looking for my filter tool and turned the garage upside down trying to find it. Turns out it was on the filter ON the car... which reminded me that the last time I got so frustrated trying to get it off that I decided to leave it till later after I had eaten some spinach and calmed down. Later turned out to be *way* later.

Well, that makes taking the filter off the car easy.

I'm half tempted to slot my tool and use a hose clamp to cinch down on the tool/filter when I need to use it.

Same here. The hex is not perfect but a 1" socket fits it well enough! I wish all filters had them.

If they do make a new S2000 oil filter, they instead of 1", they should make it 17mm so it matches the drain bolt,

I also don't stock SAE sockets so it's selfish of me as well
