Oil Filter Oil Light
Have a few questions. Would a bad oil filter cause the oil light to flicker?? I also have a noise that sounds like a valve tap but it intermittent. The noise isn't there til the car warms up. Would a mis-adjusted valve do that?? Last question, what would cause your oil to smell like gasoline?? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Gas smell in the oil indicates that raw fuel is getting past the rings or some could be getting pushed past the valve seals and into the valve train area where it will find it's way into the oil.
Oil gets picked up by the pump and then goes into the filter before it circulates to all parts of the engine. If your filter was "bad", it could cause a low pressure situation in the pump and activate the light, however, the filter should have some kind of bypass, so this is unlikely. If you're worried about the filter, just put a new one on. Check the oil and top up if required. It's possible that your oil pump is going.
Very thin oil, very low oil levels and very hot weather combined with low idle rpm can make the oil light flicker, too.

The oil light will come on at VERY low pressures. Under 4psi usually. Even if the filter was clogged, the bypass valve in the filter "should" allow unfiltered oil to circulate through the motor. A tapping noise with a oil light on is generally a very bad combination. I'd make sure there is oil in the engine 1st. I'd bet you're low if not out of oil in the pan.

I have had K20 motors get glogged with grap in the sending unit. I have seen fuel soaked oil cause oil light flicker.
I would remove sender and check and clean oil hole and change the oil.
STOP GOING TO FAST LUBE PLACES THEY DON'T USE GOOD OIL AND JUNK FILTERS ARE USED.
ALWAYS USE HONDA FILTERS. THIS IS YOU CAR TREAT IT WELL.OR IT MIGHT BE TO LATE!!!!!

One last thing I noticed is that the valve is only noisy and the oil light only comes on when the car is well warmed up like the oil is thinning with higher temperature
