Dont flame but k&n is one of the best IMHO. It has one of the biggest anti back up drain valves and a full metal contruction unlike fram which is cardboard with a hole inside the filter corners.

I feel like the k&n and oem are the same, so i dont mind useing it. I just will never use fram which is just cardboard.

But there are some oem s2k honda filters you NEED to watch out for, they just suck.

NO PICTURES OF FILTERS
As quoted from twohoos:
Honda 15400-PCX-004
Recommended for the S2000? YES.

Comments: Made in Japan by Toyo Roki Mfg., this is the current Honda OEM filter specified (worldwide?) for use in the S2000 only. It superseded the U.S.-spec 15400-P0H-305 in mid-2003. As reviewed by Road Rage at http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showth...hreadid=191911, this filter has good construction and good filter media. NOTE: As described here, this filter appears to be identical to the HAMP filter.

Honda 15400-P0H-305
Recommended for the S2000? YES, esp. for shorter drain intervals.

Comments: Made in the U.S. by Filtech, this is the original OEM filter specified for the S2000 in the U.S. for MY00-MY03. It has been superseded by the 15400-PCX-004. As reviewed by marcucci at http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml, this filter has good construction, but the filter media is not great ("fuzziness" may be a concern for extended drain intervals). If you still have these lying around, there's no need to toss them.

Honda 15400-PR3-014
Recommended for the S2000? YES.

Comments: Made in Japan by Toyo Roki, this is the original OEM filter specified for the S2000 in Japan for MY00-MY03. It has been superseded by the 15400-PCX-004. As reviewed by marcucci at http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml, this filter has good construction and good filter media.

Honda 15400-PT7-005
Recommended for the S2000? NO.

Comments: Made in Canada by Fram, this is the original OEM filter specified for the S2000 (and most Honda cars) in Canada for MY00-MY03. It has been superseded by the 15400-PCX-004 for the S2000, and by the 15400-PLM-A01 for other Honda cars. As reviewed by marcucci at http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml, this filter has mediocre construction and filter media, and is distinctly smaller than the U.S. and JDM filters. They were common in the U.S. as substitutes for the 15400-P0H-305 when dealer stock ran low. If you still have these lying around, use them on your Civic or toss them.

HAMP Synergy (model ??)
Recommended for the S2000? YES.

Comments: Made in Japan, marketed by Honda under the name HAMP (Honda Aftermarket Parts). Appears to be essentially identical to the 15400-PCX-004. As reviewed by marcucci at http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml, this filter has good construction and good filter media.

Honda 15400-PLM-A01
Recommended for the S2000? NO.

(photo by H and A Accessories)

Comments: Made in the U.S. by Filtech, this is the current universal Honda OEM filter specified for use in most Honda cars, but NOT the S2000. It is distinctly smaller than the U.S. and JDM S2000 filters.

Honda 15400-PLM-A02
Recommended for the S2000? NO.

Comments: Made in the U.S. by Fram, and probably equivalent to the Fram part #7317 pictured above, this was the universal Honda OEM filter specified for use in most Honda cars until mid-2003, but NOT the S2000. It is distinctly smaller than the U.S. and JDM S2000 filters, and was widely recognized as being a generally poor-to-mediocre filter.

IMO,the choice of oil and oil filter matters a great deal.

My 03S has 78k miles.Runs like new.

I run Amsoil AZO 0W-30 Oil in all my cars and either a Wix 51334 filter or Amsoil Ea15k20 filter in the S2K.

Mobil1 Extended Performance along side of some other brand are the top filters you can get that have the best filtering power.

have this post in other forum but figure will post here as well...

Been reading a bit on oil filters. I used M1 since Honda wasnt available at the time of oil change. I heard its a good quality filter, my only concern is the incorrect bypass pressure valve.....I actually dont know if this is important

I know S2k OEM filters are made by Filtech USA and the rest (or most) other Honda filter are made by Farm.

Its nice to see that Honda makes a separate filter for S2k which makes me wonder, is this just because OEM Farm filters are crap and Honda decided to up the quality for S2k or maybe because S2k filter needs a proper bypass ? Another thing is that owners manual/service manual have ALL info on which fluids to use, torque settings, etc.....and yet there is no ANY info on oil filter (no specs, no recommendations to use Honda, nothing)...maybe it really doesnt matter that much ? Perhaps maybe someone has specs for OEM S2k filter (although i doubt)

In such a LONG time of S2k production, did anyone ever try to find out the bypass pressure ?

and as far as OEM is always the best....well this is true in many cases, but Honda did discontinue true OEM oil filter (made in JP), they also dont use true fully-synt. oil, and we all know that Honda has NO idea what goes in LSD unit on S2k.....so its 100% true in Japan, but Honda USA is real good in cutting costs.

You can take it apart and feel the bypass spring with your finger. Here are some pic's of three oil filters(Honda, Napa and Baldwin)The button in the middle(10th pic) of the Honda and Baldwin filters "is" the bypass valve. All you have to do is push on the valve to compress the spring, very easy to tell which one has a stiffer bypass(spring).

yeah, i saw that. but any real data specs out there ? i mean if this is something that is important, wouldnt somebody have a psi number by now (12 years after production). It just seems really weird that Honda makes S2k specific filter and yet there is zero info on it (not even word/recommendation in manual).
