That's interesting; I knew USDM ones were Filtech, didn't know Filtech was a part of Toyo Roki. That might explain partly why the USDM filters use the JDM internals (save for the filter material).

It sure would be nice if an engineer from American Honda could chime in on this and other discussions once in a while to provide some answers.

Marcucci,

I did a Yahoo search and came up with Inline 4 in Westminster, CA 714-903-1898. HAMP oil filters for $12.00 http://www.inlinefour.com/honhamoilfil.html

Introducing Japan Honda's aftermarket line of
automotive products..."HAMP Synergy". HAMP
Synergy are aftermarket products designed by
Honda and are a step up from the "Honda
Original Parts" products. Not meant to compete
with racing produts, however, these peices are
quality. The HAMP filter can be used on any
Honda, but was specifically designed for use in
the Type-R and S series cars in mind. Features
include a unique release valve that dynamically
adjusts to the conditions within the filter to keep
the oil flow and pressure constant. The HAMP
oil filter will last longer and filter better than any
of the oil filters currently on the market.

So? There is no proof the OEM filter is inadequate in any way.

Good info, thanks.

Anyway, any tests of K&N oil filters. I've got a spare K&N filter, if your interested I'll send it to you, PM or e-mail me where to send it.

Has anybody used those CM Filters?

Here's another one, http://www.trasko-usa.com. Anybody used this yet? Now this thing, does use toilet paper!! They also got a cool disk brake tool and another fuel magnet thing, or whatever it does.

Tanqueray,
My opinion is based on not so much that they are "fuzzy," but the material is rather loose and not very cohesive. I can't say it would trap more or less (but if it's less dense I would think it would trap less), but it would appear that the material would shed easily. I have no proof, but I will report back when I take apart a used one and compare it to new.

fuelie62,
Good luck finding an engineer that will talk. I've tried what few people I know that have worked with Honda and have gotten nowhere.

Ira,
The filter that the S2000 uses is the same filters all Hondas (save for the Insight) have used since 1986. Prior to that, it was a very similar filter that was slightly larger.

cdelena,
I can send you a cut open US or Canadian Honda filter. I think if you look at it, especially if you compare it to the JDM, you'll change your opinion...

BBSpoon,
You have a PM

The only real proof of filtering capabilities would have to be done in a lab. And even with that you would then have to determined what is adequate filtering.
