Default Oil deterioration question

I bought my S back in Sept. and have yet to change the oil. I might have put 1,200 miles on her since then. I am thinking it's about time to change the oil for good measure, but do I really need to?

still good and lots of protection would be left on it based on most over the counter brand name oils these days.

Waste of $$$$. Use a quality synthetic/filter combo and every 7500 is likely still overkill

What does your oil change monitor state? If you bought used, only caveat is you just bought the car so you don't know what oil is in it, or when it was changed.

If used, I would just change the oil and filter and go with 7.5k mi /12 mo from there.

76%...I drive it kinda hard

Car was purchased at a dealership, paperwork shows an oil change a week before purchase. OEM filter was used.

7.5k miles? I am more comfortable with 5k... 2.7k-3k is just crazy though.

I agree Saki - since you bought it used I would go ahead and change the oil/filter to get your own baseline. From then on you should be fine with intervals between 5000-7500 or once a year. The oil is probably fine at this point, but I would feel better knowing exactly what oil brand/weight was in my car, plus you get to spend some time with your S.

I agree with 3k being a BIG waste of money, if you look at how well synthetics now a days do, like for example amsoil, people have sent it to labs to get it check out after 5 or 7k miles and the oil has very little to no break down at all and could last several thousand more miles.

Your stuck with dino oils and how often they have to be changed way back then.

I change at intervals of 6 or 7k depending how hard i've driven.
