Default Oil Consumption Issue

For the past couple of months, my car which has 115k miles has been burning around 1 quart of oil every 750-1000 miles. I replaced the pcv valve around 1-2 months ago which didnt resolve the issue.

The car seems to run fine without any issues, just the oil loss. I know some have similar issues while some dont even burn any oil at all. I Vtec the car around once a week if that. I really dont drive it hard. Can anyone think of what can be wrong?

I was looking into installing a catch can or krank vent but wasnt sure if it would make a big difference.

Thanks for any help.

thats alot of oil. sounds like you have either

bad rings
bad valve guides
leaky oil pan or front or rear seal

you could try seafoaming the motor and see if that helps.

I did that about 20-30k miles ago so Might have to do it again. I had my car dynoed a few month back and everything seemed ok. Most of the time i vtec, a cloud of smoke comes out. I dont know if thats normal but from what i read it is since i dont do it much and thats the carbon buildup. I have intake, testpipe and vafc tuned.

Is there a way I can check that myself without it costing me an arm and a leg. I know I can do a compression test like some post have mentioned but my dyno was fine and the numbers seemed ok.

On a side note, when I did my dyno, it was around 30 passes since they were tuning my vafc, and most of the time, had black smoke pouring out when I hit vtec.

dyno numbers are not really going to tell you that much aboput how your compression is. and if black smoke was coming out thats normal.

black smoke is normal in the MY00-01's since our ecu runs rich

what oil are you using? many have had oil consumption issues with mobil 1. personally, i used to run mobil 1 and have to fill about 1/2-3/4 qt every 1000 miles. after switching to amsoil i have had to add less than 1/4 qt every 1000 miles.

Normally, Its whatever synthetic oil is on sale when I go to discount or autozone. Its normally either Castrol, penzoil or Valv. All synthetic.

By the way, have you guys seen the prices of synthetic oils lately. Used to get them for under 5 and now they havent had any buy one get one free sales. Plus they are over 8 dollars for castrol and mobil.

I got crank vents when I installed my Comptech SC. I've sold the SC setup but kept the crank vents, because they help so much with oil consumption. Without them, I'd have to add 1-2 quarts between oil changes. With the crank vents, I don't have to top off at all between oil changes.

Thats very good to hear. Whats the difference between the crank vents and a oil catch can. Ive seen some cheap oil catch cans on ebay. Couldnt find the crank vents

krank vents will work to slow down oil consumption - but i don't like the vacuum that it creates.

so i use a supra tt pcv valve and it helps slow it down, but not as good as krank vents.
