The Pennzoil you show has a lot less volatility than Mobil 1, it's noack value for platinum is under 4% Mobil1, is around 10%.
So what does this mean for performance of the oil itself besides lower consumption? Good? Bad?
It's a really good oil it's right up there with amsoil sso, and it's easier to find locally. Amsoil has 30 degree higher flash point and slightly higher shear strength, but it's such a small difference that it's essential nill

All oil leaves a film on the cylinder walls this is what tends to burn, on a healthy engine at least. More so with a higher volatility. Some also evaporates when hot blowby gasses mix with the oil and exit through the pcv system.

Its a decent question, "why do certain S2000's and or with this and that oil , use oil and others don't?Mine is 11 years old, a 04, and has 73,000 miles on it and I use, do my own changes, Chevron 10/30 from costco by the case and honda filters...and HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY OiL use....that is the mark on the dipstick does not move. I have gone 5,000 mile or more between changes. Go figure?

AP2 engines were constructed differently than AP1's, final honing was done with a deck plate for all cars after 03, not so with pre-03 engines, this causes a slight warp on some of the cylinders causing more oil to slip past the rings. Added to this, a lot of engines were not properly broken in, further exacerbating the problem. Furthermore, the PCV system was changed post 03 engines further reducing oil consumption. There are a lot of pre 03 engines with perfect compression and leak down numbers that burn oil, mine included. My friend has an 04, and he basically neglects the engine maintenance, to the point that his dip-stick keeps popping out, and he doesn't burn a drop of oil.

just read that the penz platinum will be phased out and replaced with untra platinum which has more cleaning and added friction reducers. dang hope it works as good as the regular one for me.

Pennzoil platinum with pure plus is phasing out non pp platinum. Ultra platinum remains hard as ever to find.

used to run mobil 1 in my 01. it would burn/blow it out to the tune of 1 qut every 1k miles. switch to Castrol high mileage 10w30 and cut it consumption down to half that. just bought an 02 with 90k on the clock and have put 2k miles on it and the oil level hasn't changed. Honda syn. blend. may stick with that for the new one.
